Why put the sump in during foundation work?
Because the floor is already open. Cutting a pit and running drainage while the slab is out costs far less than coming back to do it later.
Do I need a backup pump?
If losing power for a night could flood your basement, yes. We usually recommend a battery backup, and in Halton a water-powered backup doesn't qualify for the Region's subsidy.
