Foundation repair in Grimsby.
Between the lake and the escarpment, from Grimsby Beach's old cottages to the subdivisions that replaced the orchards, we repair, underpin and build foundations across Grimsby. Quoted in writing.

Between the lake and the escarpment.
Grimsby started as The Forty, a Loyalist settlement on Forty Mile Creek in the 1780s, and most of the town still sits on the narrow strip between Lake Ontario and the Niagara Escarpment. Grimsby Beach grew out of a 19th-century camp ground, and many of its painted cottages date from before 1945. Most of the orchards near the centre became subdivisions between the 1950s and the 1980s, and new towers and townhomes are now going up by the lake.
That gives us a real range of foundations to work on. The Grimsby Beach cottages were first built on cedar posts, and old houses like them often need new footings or a proper foundation. Block foundations from the postwar decades are prone to bowing and stair-step cracks. Newer homes bring settlement cracks, additions and walkouts on sloped lots.
Site investigations below the escarpment have found mostly silt, clayey silt and silty clay till, and conditions change near the lake and the creeks: one lakefront investigation found groundwater as little as 1.8 metres down. We check soil and water on your lot before we dig.
What we see most in Grimsby
- Old cottages that need new footings or a real foundation
- Bowing or stair-step cracked block walls
- Settling and cracks near the lake and creeks
- Low basements that need underpinning
- Sloped lots that suit a walkout
- Additions that need their own foundation
